About NHS Sunderland Talking Therapies

Sunderland Talking Therapies is a partnership organisation comprising of:

The organisations work in partnership to provide assessments and a range of treatments for people with common mental health problems. These may include Stress, Depression, Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), Social Anxiety Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress and Panic.

We see individuals from the age of 16 upwards (not in Year 11 or below) who live within the Sunderland, Washington and Houghton area. If you live outside of these areas and wish to access a Talking Therapies service, please speak to your GP

Who will I see?

Our talking therapies are provided by either a qualified practitioner such as a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner, High-Intensity Therapist or Community Practitioner, Counsellor or alternatively one of our trainee practitioners.

Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners

Provide Guided Self Help interventions for a range of common mental health problems and help with the delivery of classes.

High Intensity Therapists

Provide a range of different therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Systemic and Carer’s Therapy.

Community Practitioners

Provide CBT and Solution Focussed informed interventions and help with the delivery of the classes.

Counselling

GP counselling offers one to one counselling to adults who are suffering from emotional or mental distress which could include stress, bereavement, grief and loss.

What will my therapy appointment be like?

The work you do with your practitioner will depend on the type of therapy you are receiving, this may be on a individual basis or within a group setting. Treatment can be delivered in person, as an online appointment or by telephone.
